Exploring Everyday Streets
WORKSHOP AND EXHIBITION JUNE 2019
StreetSpace is a research and teaching project at Queen's University Belfast, led by Dr Agustina Martire, which seeks to understand the significance of local mixed streets, by analysing their physical, historical and experiential aspects. This multidisciplinary and international project aims to provide an alternative way of planning, preserving and developing streets.
Workshop - City Hall – 17-18 June 2019
This year the focus is on the Clifton Gateway (Donegall Street, Clifton Street and Crumlin Road). This will be a two-day workshop to explore the complexity of these streets in Belfast. We will explore people's experiences, memories and histories and create a set of maps to reflect these. We will also investigate the potential of these streets to provide fair, accessible and diverse places for people. This workshop is based on the one-year live project carried out by students of the Masters of Architecture, in collaboration with Anthropology and Film Studies at QUB, the Department for Communities and Belfast City Council. We will develop a series of activities that will lead us to 6 new maps of the Clifton Gateway.
Exhibition - PLACE –20 June-31 July 2019
The maps and proposals of the live project will be exhibited together with the new set of maps produced in the workshop. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
